It's been awhile since I've written on here. I finally have a free moment. I have finished my Christmas shopping, I did almost all of it online. Never really liked having to fight the crowds or sit in traffic. I am excited to see the family over Christmas and share presents and sit down to dinner with everyone. Even, with all this to look forward to during this Christmas season, its hard to be happy and I mourn what has become of These United States.
I was reading an article on The State today about how SC will refuse to accept federal money for jobless benefits until the unemployment department in SC is audited and held accountable for the money it is distributing. Reading the comments on there were astounding! People feel they are entitled to this money somehow just because they don't have a job. Ok, before you start saying, "but you don't understand what's its like...." YES I DO!! I didn't come from a rich family. Everything I have I have worked for. I'm still in debt from law school and undergrad. I know what it is like to live on less than $2000/month so don't even start. The thing that is astounding, is people now believe they are entitled to have the government take care of them and alleviate a bit of suffering for everyone. Nowhere in either the state or federal constitutions does it say that the function of government is to provide benefits for the unemployed. Back when, people would rely on their families during hard times in their lives. I know my sister, when she was having hard times, she did not look for a handout, she moved back in with my parents and the rest of us and we welcomed her with open arms until she was back on her feet. The problem is today, those who sought to replace the family structure with government have succeeded in their mission. The government is now the father in at least 50% of black families and about 20% of white families. From an early age children are indoctrinated in government schools that the federal government is this great benefactor and are not taught hard work or self-reliance.
It is not just children or families either. As this country quickly rolls down toward the pit of socialism, businesses are now looking for handouts from the government. First wall street, then the auto industry and now we have businesses of all sorts whining that they can't go on without a handout. It is completely un-capitalist and very un-American. Propping up failing businesses keeps other from coming in and taking over in a more efficient and profitable manner. All capitalistic arguments aside, such bailouts are completely unconstitutional! The founding fathers would be leading another revolution right now against what has become an quasi-fascist imperial government.
Whether it be the Republicans or the Democrats, it does not matter, the constitution for all practical purposes is dead. George W. Bush put it in the coffin and Obama will be the one to hammer in the nails. (Of course one man did not do this, it is, was, and will be the forces behind the scenes pressing for the end to all state sovereignty and complete global socialism). All Washington politicians (with the exception of very few) are beholden to lobbyists, money, and power. Far away from their constituents the parties can play off each other for the uninformed public and make it look there are opposing political factions in the country. Nothing could be further from the truth seeing that there are only maybe three or four issues the parties differ on.
Such a powerful, and distant government would have never come to pass had the original vision of the founders been upheld. Jefferson and other envisioned a country run not be a central power, but the States themselves, where politicians were also your neighbors and could be held to account at a local level. The states would be final word in all matters, not the federal government. Much of it has to do with events happening before the War for Southern Independence and the passage of the "unconstitutional" 14th Amendment. But that is a discussion for another day.
So as we celebrate this joyous Christmas season when our savior was born, remember that while Jesus may be able to save everyone, the Federal government neither has the resources, nor the authority to save everyone.
